Many children with autism tend to have sensory processing issues where information coming into the brain from one of the five senses may slow down and have difficulty getting processed. You see this when a child covers his ears or refuses eye contact or shies away from being touched. The child may not be able to filter out the overwhelming array of stimulus from seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling and touching all at once. One of the many therapies that can help with this issue is called Auditory Integration Therapy (or AIT).
